Redbrick is a huge red brick house located on the corner of S. Race St. and Illinois St., near Lincoln Square in Urbana as well as two bus lines. (You may recognize it as the house with the giant dog painted on the side.) The house is compromised of 10 members, some students and some not, and is open to pets, pending approval from all members of the house.
Redbrick is three stories tall and has 9 single bedrooms as well as an attic studio. The first floor has a 3/4th bath as well as a private full bath that is attached to one of the bedrooms. The second floor has one 3/4th bath as well as a full bath; both are equipped with bidets. The attic studio is equipped with a private full bath as well as a fully functioning kitchen.
Our house is equipped with wireless internet as well as a washer and dryer in the entry room. There is also an outdoor seating area, where we like to eat food together, as well as several garden plots, where we like to grow our own food. We try to be mindful of our environment and compost in our large compost bin. Sometimes, we like to host bonfires, which makes our outdoor firepit perfect. Additionally, our living room is equipped with a projector, where we like to play games and watch movies together.
Food / Chores
Redbrick members enjoy 5 weekly house meals, where we take turns cooking for each other. Most meals are healthy vegetarian and vegan with the occasional non-vegetarian meal as well. Each person cooks once/week with another person, where members get to know their friendly housemates. Chores, including food shopping, finances, and general cleaning, are also split and there is usually a weekly house meeting that typically lasts 15 min - 1 hour. The house process is flexible and decisions are voted on as a house.
Room rates vary from $285/month to $365/month with the attic studio being $455/month. Utilities are typically about $75 - $110 / month, depending on the time of year. Food is $125/month. There is also parking available for rent in the driveway for $25/month.
